1. Keep lights burning While you're away from home, keep several low-wattage lights burning, preferably in the bathroom, upstairs and in other locations where a burglar can't see if the room is empty.
2. Lock it up Make certain that all entrances to your house are locked securely. Further hinder a burglar by equipping your exterior doors with high-quality dead-bolt or other key-operated locks. However, be careful of locks that require a key to open from the inside, possibly preventing a quick escape during a fire.
